Power system operators are being increasingly transparent about their daily and hourly operations, allowing us to see inside their world. As renewable energy becomes an increasingly important part of power systems, much can be gleaned by simply watching the daily ups and downs of supply, demand, and, "the shape of things to come," net demand.

Apps
The California ISO offers an app for IOS and Android that gives real time system data, including renewables production and net demand.
The Global Atlas pocket app from the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA)

ISO New England's app also offers real time locational marginal prices (LMPs).
Vidyut PRAVAH has real time data on the Indian power system, including prices and shortages.

ERCOT's app tracks supply and demand, and locational prices in Texas.

The California ISO tracks supply and demand, including net demand (demand minus wind and solar).

The Agorameter tracks power production, prices, imports and exports in Germany.

Germany's Fraunhofer Institute data tracking is notable for interesting graphics.

The Midcontinent ISO presents various data, including LMP heat maps.

PJM has a wide variety of real-time and day-ahead market data.

ISO-NE has real time price maps and other data.

The US Energy Information Administration now has daily and weekly demand curves, by region and nationally, with a two-day lag.

The UT Energy Institute offers an online "Energy 101" course with various apps, tools and videos. This merit order calculator allows you to test the impact of different fuel prices and demand levels on the market clearing price in ERCOT. Click the image to go to the calculator.
